Crowdfunding To Help A Friend Produce Her First Song

Contribution Link:

The fundraising is for a friend, Shahd Syoufi, who is an extremely talented and fiercely passionate musician. Shahd comes from the city of Homs in Syria. Presently, she lives in Germany where her family moved in back in 2013, given the situation in Syria, because of the civil war.

“I have dreamed of becoming a singer since the day I learned to talk, maybe even before that”, she would say when asked about her passion for music.

As a kid, she was encouraged to pursue her passion for singing where she used to perform at school functions and sometimes at family gatherings. But coming from a society where music, dance and other such art forms are mostly frowned upon when pursued by women, she lost the support from her family when she came of age.

But, things changed (mostly for good) when she moved to Germany where she is more free from the boundaries of a restrictive society. She is twenty-three and studying at the University of Stuttgart. She is a fierce advocate for women’s rights especially in the Arabic world and wishes to inspire women to pursue their passions and dreams and fight the restrictions of the society they live in.

Currently, she is working on her first song and she wishes to produce it by the mid of this year. The song will be in Arabic, and will urge women to think about their lives and think freely. But, being a student, and trying to live independently without depending on her parents for finances, while facing criticism from her community, she needs our help.

I am trying to raise funds to help her with the logistical expenses of producing the song. If you are willing to contribute (any amount) please do not hesitate to contact me for any details.

Here are a few of her singing videos –

NaPoWriMo – Day 9 : The Playlist Poem

Hey there Delialah‘,
If you ever feel neglected
If you find your heart is ‘broken‘,
Just know that
I’ll be ‘Leaving on a Jet plane
Through the storms of your
tears and rain
I will look for you, and
I’ll ‘Carry you home‘,
Because, come what may Delialah
We’ll always be together
It’s a Promise I will never
Say ,’Goodbye, my lover

*Day-9 prompt was to pick up 5 random songs from one of our random playlists and use them in a poem.

Let’s Talk, Dear Friend – The Song

This is a demo very crudely recorded, to be submitted as a reference to the 3rd Week’s Assignment on Pat Pattison’s Songwriting Course I am taking on The loop used in the background is also from the class resources supplied by Pat.

We had to write one Verse(Stable) and one Chorus(Unstable). I used one of my earlier poems as a reference as many people had suggested it could be made into a song.

I have never sung/composed in my life so this might sound pretty cacophonic. But, then it is purely for an academic purpose and a little fun too 🙂

Let’s Talk, Dear Friend

Let’s talk my friend, you and I
Let’s get some beers and catch up on those years
Let’s find ourselves in the crowd
n’ together let’s remember who we really really were
Let’s talk of things that we’ve done
and all those little little things we could never really do
Let’s; pick up from where we’d left
act crazy, talk sleazy and in the morning have no clue

’cause time will come, and time will go
What becomes of us my friend, we’ll never really know
So let’s talk let’s talk my dear friend
Let’s go…. get those beers

PS: If you would like to make a song out of it/re-record it, feel free to do so and link back. Cheers!

I Will Smile – The Song adaptation of my Poem

This is a Song adaptation of one of my poems I had written during NaPoWriMo this year. My friend, Vikrant Sharma was kind enough to make a beautiful blues track out of it. This poem was written while I was listening to Evanescence all day and is a tribute to Amy Lee, the Vocalist for the band.

If you like the song, you can check out more of Vikrant’s brilliant music on his Soundcloud Profile,

and, here’s the link to the poem I Will Smile, I Will Smile(A Tribute To Amy Lee)

Hope you like it.

I Believe

I believe in love even though hate is all I see around me
I believe in hope even with the burst of despair in your eyes
I believe in trust even though with mistrust the zephyr cries
I believe in me even though my reflections say otherwise.

I believe.

I believe in the sun even though it’s slow in rising
I believe in the rain even without the clouds surrounding
I believe in the wind, a sonnet so mesmerizing
I believe in you even without realizing

I believe.

I believe in the world, its people and its way
I believe it will change for you and me someday
I believe I’ll remember every single face when I pray
I believe it will be a happy man lying in my grave.

I believe.

The Poem was inspired from a song that was created by two Indian bands in collaboration, Parikrama and Agnee on the show, Dewarists.

Be The Change

Part – 1

In this world cloaked in darkness, let there be light
In the skies of freedom, let us take this flight
In this battle against tyranny, together let us fight
In the hearts of the young, this fire let us ignite
Let us stand together, hold our hands and march
Let us dream;
dream a world of hope,
let us keep a watch
Let us free the little birds of dreams from their cage
Let us be the guide,
Let us be the change
Let us build this world, build it together as one
and then there will be a change
then there will be change

Part – 2

I will be the wind, I will be the fire
I will be the light, I will inspire
I will not give up, I will not fall
I WILL find a way when there will be none

I will be knowledge, I will be strength
I will be a pillar, I will not bend
I will be trust, and I will be hope
I will be a symbol – for I am the spirit of Change

Two Poems that I wrote for a song that our Band recorded for an NGO named Samarpan. The verses are in Hindi and I will be posting a translation in another post. But I hope you enjoy the poems(in English) and the music.

I Wish

I wish you could send me the essence,
the essence of the weather in a bottle
A bit of the rain, a bit of the wind,
and a bit of your feelings,
mixed together

I wish you could send me the melody,
the melody that hums in your heart
A bit of the joy, a bit of the sorrow,
and a whole lot of love,
playing their part

I wish you could send me the time,
The time from your life in a box
A bit of the seconds, a bit of the hours,
and a bit of the years,
ticking in a thought

I would like to thank my friend, Bhumika. The first four lines are taken from a conversation we were having.
